Uaru Cichlid
The Uaru Cichlid, also known as the Triangle Cichlid, is originally from the backwaters of the Amazon basin of South America and is now being captive bred.

Origin: Amazon river basin and northern south america. Mostly found in forest rivers with lots of wood, in between which the fish can hide.

Uaru is a small genus of cichlids with only two species.

The Uaru needs a tank with a gravelly bottom and rocks with caves for hiding places. Plants are not needed so much for this species, so lighting in the tank should be subdued to make up for the lack of plants.

Uaru amphiacanthoides is a substrate spawner, although breeding is hard to accomplish in aquaria. As far as pairing, it is best to buy a large shoal of this species and let them pair off on their own.
Uaru is an exception as it is the local name of the species and it must be pronounced as U - a - roo.
Vowel + U pronounced also as v. So the word pauciperflorata must be pronounced as pav - ki - per - flo - ra - ta.
Discus and uaru are amongst the fish being bred.
This large grow-out tank contains at least eight species of fish.

PD: An oval-shaped cichlid with a laterally compressed body. The fins are fairly erect and large, and the caudal fin is fan-shaped.
Or Uaru? Or Scat? Many fish, either by behavior (Oscars and many Cichlids), or by being herbivorous (i.e., plant eater, such as Uaru, Pacus, Scats, and Goldfish, along with many, many others) may be or are incompatible with plants.

Symphysodon and Uaru are unique among fishes in producing nourishing mucus that the newly hatched fry graze on.
Our coconut shell carbon for water use does not leach phosphate into the water and is highly recommended for both saltwater and freshwater tanks, especially for species tanks (I use it myself on my large Discus and Uaru tank).
Many beginning hobbyists are not aware that the Angelfish and Discus are Cichlids, as both species are peaceful, and neither has the typical Cichlid oval shape. The Uaru (pronounced "waru"), is also a sensitive species.
