Hey, I just bought two bichirs, and I have them in a 55 gallon tank with my two dragon fish(violet goby). they all are not above six inches. And they seem to get along fine.
This is a dragonfish, also known as a dragon goby or a violet goby.

Their new tank mates are blue rams, Bolivian rams, a school of ruby tetras, 10 zebra dianos, a violet goby and a dinosaur eel. With all the colors in the tank, theirs is the most brilliant in the tank.
