Walking catfishes are around 30 cm (a foot or so) in length and has an elongated body shape. This catfish has long-based dorsal and anal fins as well as several pairs of sensory barbels.

Summary: Clarius is a widely distributed genus of catfish. They are commercially bred in the Congo and in Asia. David tells of his own experiences with Clarius batrachus.

The Clarias, or Walking Catfish is a large fish from the family Clariidae. It has an elongated body with very long-based dorsal and anal fins. Eight barbels outline the mouth.

The walking catfish is one of these fish, and can migrate across land to another body of water. The blind catfish is unusual in that it lives in caves. The eyes are atrophied and useless its to dark in a cave to see anyway.

This fish is often called the "Walking Catfish" because of it's ability to walk on it's strong pectoral fins. In the wild this fish will often "walk" to another body of water when it needs to.

The 'walking catfish' in Florida is an example. Thought to have escaped from a private aquarium, the catfish have shown a remarkable ability to avoid eradication efforts by man.

As I remember, the only fish (or maybe the only freshwater fish) which is illegal to import is a walking catfish, but this can change at any time. The USF&W does not seem to care about: Release into native waters. State laws regulating fish.

They are: Archerfish, Scats, Monos, Anableps, all Gobies, Mudskippers, Walking Catfish, most Puffers (with only two true freshwater exceptions), most Mollies, Silver Sharks (a catfish species), Half beaks, Psychedelic Eels, Reed Eels, Bamboo Eels, ...
