Water sprite is a one of the easiest plants to keep and there are cases where some people have all their plants dying but water sprites are thriving.

Water Sprite - Ceratopteris pteridoides - can be grown totally submerged, where it almost resembles celery, or floating, where its leaves look a bit fuller, perhaps like oak leaves, or emerged, where its leaves are thinner and more branhy.

Keeping even the hardiest of plants looking their best can be difficult in a brackish aquarium. The water movement preferred by brackish fish is not a plus for plants.

Water Sprite Ceratopteris thalictroides If I could only have one plant for my tanks it would be water sprite. This is an amazingly versatile plant that can be grown as a floating or rooted plant.

The water sprite produces long trailing roots along with wide-spreading fronds that will provide your fry with places to hide. This plant grows rapidly and sends out daughter plantlets on its fronds.

Vesicularia dubyana (Java Moss), Ceratopteris (Water Sprite) and Microsorium (Polypodium pteropus or Java Fern) are all compatible live aquatic plants.

Some of these include Java fern, Anubias, Cryptocoryne species, water sprite and Java moss. Some of these plants, notably Cryptocorynes, actually prefer lower light.

The plant help crew also includes fast growing (i.e., rapid nutrient absorbing) plants such as many stem plants which may be either rooted or floating, and water sprite (really a rosette plant but also either rooted or floating), ...

The author conducted an experiment and got 6 quarter sized Angelfish from a large tank of like sized Angels and put them in a 10 gallon tank with a sponge filter and Water Sprite.

Over the next few days, he spent most of his time sulking in a flowerpot or hanging in the Water Sprite near the surface. After four or five days, he was eating normally with the other adults, and I saw no fry. I assumed that he had eaten the eggs.

It eats any standard aquarium fare, but should have a high degree of vegetable matter in its diet. Put in some floating plants such as hornwort or water sprite, and one day you will most probably find baby platies hiding amongst the plants.
