West African Dwarf Cichlids
West African Dwarf cichlids are great aquarium fish that are rarely seen in most areas. The lone exception to this is the common Kribensis or Krib Pelvicachromis pulcher.

Kribensis is a dwarf cichlid from West African Deltas, living in slightly brackish waters. They will tolerate a pH of 6.5 to 7.5 and a temperature from 25 degrees to 29 degrees.

Juvenile Congo tetras fit the bill nicely and kept with the West African theme. The behavior of the stormsi changed dramatically. They almost instantly became more gregarious, and no longer darted for the caves whenever I approached.

The Retropinnis Bichir is also known as the West African or Speckled Bichir and originates from the Congo basin, Africa. As with other members of the primitive Polypteridae family, the Retropinnis Bichir has the unique ability to survive out of water.

Kribs or ``Kribensis'' - Pelvicachromis pulcher are a widely seen West African Cichlid that will do well with the larger schooling fish and should be kept in a twenty gallon or larger tank. Male Kribs grow to be 4" long and females stay a bit smaller.

Kribensis is the common name for a number of west african fish from the family Cichlidae [1]. Kribensis are popular aquarium amongst aquarium hobbyists [2].

A peaceful fish that is best suited for the West African biotope tank. Ideal tankmates include mid-sized African barbs, tetras, and cichlids.

The Kribs live mainly in West African rivers and they prefer shallow water with lots of shelter from plants and drift wood and rock caves. They tolerate a temperature range of 77 to 82 F. (25 to 28 C. ) a pH of 5 to 7.5 and soft to hard water.

Gouramis in the genera Colisa and Trichogaster make ideal tankmates, as do many of the cichlids, such as the festivum and most of the South American and West African dwarf species.
