Wet-dry filters are not just for marine aquaria:
Freshwater aquariums can also benefit from the use of wet-dry filtration. The aquatic environment will have greater oxygen content and a better oxygen/CO2 exchange.

Wet/Dry (Trickle) Filters - More commonly used by saltwater enthusiasts, the wet-dry filter has become more popular with freshwater hobbyists.

The tank came with a wet-dry filter. I removed the media and used it as a sump. I built the lights and calcium reactor myself. I purchased a VHO ballast, pumps, protein skimmer, mechanical float valve, heater, fan, and temperature controller.

At this point, I would move the wet-dry filter, if there is one, to the relocated tank, and get the protein skimmer running. After a few more days, you can gradually start adding in the fish, but spread this over a week or two.

Oxygen can be added to the aquarium through an air pump attached to some sort of air stone, by utilizing a filter that creates much surface disturbance, or by using a wet-dry filter system.

A sump is a water basin below the aquarium that water is allowed to fall into and then from which the water is pumped back up to the aquarium. A sump can be a spare aquarium, a wet-dry filter, a rubber maid tote, or if you want to go overboard, ...
