White Spot: - the most common of the visible signs is the development of the pin head-size while sports on the body or fins. This ailment is referred to as white Spot caused by the parasite - Ichthyophthirius Multifillis.
White spot or Ich is a common problem in new setups or from those who have recently added fish.
The white spots, however, only indicate one stage of Ich (the only one that can be seen by the naked eye).
"Ich" = White Spots?
Over the past few months, I've spent a fair amount of time at the microscope, trying to get a better feel for which parasitic infections are common, as well as which medications are effective.

Disease caused by the parasite Ichthyopthirius multifilus. The mature parasite on the fish is typically 0.5mm in size and encysts on the skin and gills.
White Spot is seen literally on the fish as small white spots, mainly on fins, but it can be on the body as well.

The infection may begin in the gills or on the body of the fish. Distinct white spots the size of a large grains of salt appear as the imbedded parasites form their cysts. As in Oodinium, rubbing or scratching is also usually apparent.
