Apophyge From LoveToKnow 1911 APOPHYGE (Gr. a r04vyi, a flying off), in architecture, the lowest part of the shaft of an Ionic or Corinthian column, or the highest member of its base if the column be considered as a whole.
Apophyge - The slight curve at the top and bottom of a column where the shaft joins the capital or base. Appliqué - An ornamental or decorative material applied to the finish of a structure, not of the structure's original material.
(Arch.) An apophyge. Congé d'élire (Eccl.) the sovereign's license or permission to a dean and chapter to choose as bishop the person nominated in the missive. v. i.
