ENGAGED or ATTACHED COLUMN A column applied to a wall.
ENTABLATURE A horizontal arrangement of architrave, frieze, and cornice that is supported by columns or found on a wall.
FACADE The face or front of a building.

Engaged column
A column attached to, or partly sunk into, a wall of pier. Also called an "applied column" or "attached column."

In architecture, a column that is attached to a wall and which is therefore not completely cylindrical. It may not be load bearing, and may exist only to visually articulate the wall. Another term for an engaged column is an attached column.
