Beveled Edge
Refers to an edge of a structure that is not perpendicular (but instead often at 45 degrees) to the faces of the piece. The words bevel and chamfer overlap in usage.
Single story porches were common having square post supports with beveled corners. Porches were usually small, but in later years full-width expansions were constructed.
A square-shaped cupola or tower may cap these two, three, or four-story homes.
Crown molding: A wide, molding with beveled edges that is used at the junction of an interior wall and ceiling. General term for any molding at the top or "crowning" an architectural element.

cherub A winged celestial being, the second of the nine orders of angels, usually portrayed as a chubby rosy-faced child.
This corner detail shows that the end of each piece of wood was beveled or "keyed" before it was placed. This means that a wedge shape was carved into the receiving log while a point was carved into the log that was to be placed in it.
