The Weldon Library at the University of Western Ontario is typical of Brutalist architecture. The rounded corner stair towers provide end balance for five horizontal bands of béton brut concrete.
During the 1950s, Paulo Mendes da Rocha joined an avant-garde movement in São Paulo, Brazil. His work, known as Paulist brutalist architecture, used simple shapes and materials.
