CASTELLAN: The officer in charge of a castle. CURTAIN: The connecting wall joining towers of a castle. CURTAIN WALL: An exterior wall or a section of that wall between two gates or towers. Some castle had two sets of curtain walls.

Keep: The English term for a donjon; the inner tower of a castle, usually the strongest, used by the besieged as the last refuge tower. By the 12th century it was used as more of a residence for the lord or castellan.
