console - from Latin, consolator, "one who consoles," hence a support. A bracket of classic form, usually scrolled at the top and bottom and supporting a cornice, a door or window head, a piece of sculpture, etc.

Console - An ornamental bracket or corbel in the form of an S curve in Classical architecture.

Console
- ornamental scrolled bracket, normally in stone or timber, usually supporting a projecting lintel, fascia etc.

CONSOLE
Piece of furniture that stands against a wall with the decorative features on the front and sides. Ex: sideboards, buffet servers, breakfronts, etc.
CORBEL
Ornamental bracket that supports a beam or other element.

Corbel or console - A projecting block, usually of stone, supporting a beam or other horizontal member. A series, each one projecting beyond the one below, can be used in constructing a vault or arch.

In architecture a corbel (or console) is a piece of stone jutting out of a wall to carry any superincumbent weight. A piece of timber projecting in the same way was called a "tassel" or a "bragger".
