Foliated frieze: A panel decorated with carved foliage or leaves, found below the upper molding or cornice of a wall, and sometimes spanning the whole interior of the church.

Foliated - Carved with leaves.
Footings - Bottom part of wall.
Forebuilding - An extension to the keep, guarding it's entrance.

Ornamented with foils or representations of foliage on an archway, window or other opening.
Gable
A triangular wall segment at the end of a double-pitched or gabled roof.

foundation : The base of a house providing stability and rigidness. Foundation wall : The masonry wall that rest on the footer.

Foliated
- carved with leaf ornamentation. eg foliated tympanum or pediment, foliated cusps.
Can also refer to the beating of metal into thin sheets ie copper, or the separation of mineralogical material into different layers.

Foliate / Foliated

At the comers of the capital there are small volutes; Elaborately foliated capital. Cornice: Decorative projection along the top of a wall. Counterguard: A long, near-triangular freestanding fortification within the moat.

Finial - A formal ornament at the top of a canopy, gable, pinnacle, etc.; usually a detached foliated fleur-de-lis form.

In the more usual case of painted grisaille the lead lines still formed the groundwork of the design, though supplemented by foliated or other detail, boldly outlined in strong brown and emphasized by a background of cross-hatching.

The curves of the arches are emphasized by two bands of moulding whilst above there are foliated kufic inscriptions which contain Quranic passages referring to crops and harvests. [hide description]
