HEXASTYLE (Gr. 4, six, and rrfAos, column), an architectural term given to a temple in the portico of which there are six columns in front.

Hexastyle - Of a portico with six frontal columns.
Hood-mould - A projecting moulding to throw off the rain, on the face of a wall, above an arch, doorway, or window.
Hypaethral - Without a roof, open to the sky.

hexastyle: term descriptive of a 6-columned portico.
hipped roof: a pitched roof in which the ends are also sloped.
hypaethral: (Greek) open to the sky.

Hexastyle buildings had six columns and were the standard facade in canonical Greek Doric architecture between the archaic period 600-550 B.C up to the Age of Pericles 450-430 B.C.

Hexastyle temple: having a portico of six columns at either end.
Himation : a type of clothing in ancient Greece. It was usually worn over a chiton, but was made of heavier drape and played the role of a cloak.

distyle (two), tetrastyle (four), hexastyle (six), octostyle (eight). A prostyle portico has columns standing free. A portico in antis has columns on the same plane as the front of the building.
