Hypaethral - Without a roof, open to the sky.

Hyperbolic paraboloid roof - A special form of double-curved shell, the geometry of which is generated by straight lines. This property makes it fairly easy to construct.

 


hypaethral: (Greek) open to the sky.
imperial staircase: one with a central arm breaking into 2 flights which follow the outer walls.
impluvium: (Roman) water tank housed in central hall or atrium provided with an opening in the roof.

Cleithral - term applied to a covered Greek temple, in contradistinction to hypaethral, which designates one that is uncovered; the roof of a cleithral temple completely covers it. Chisholm, Hugh, ed (1911). "Cleithral".
