Iconostasis - A screen in Byzantine churches separating the sanctuary from the nave and pierced by three doors. Originally a lattice of columns jointed by a decorated parapet and coping.

Iconostasis
A feature of the interior design of Eastern Christian churches.

Iconostasis In Orthodox churches, the chancel and the nave are separated by a partition that generally does not reach all the way to the ceiling. It is covered with icons whose subject and placement is significant.
