Impost
The horizontal molding on the top of a column, pillar or pier from which the arch springs. Imposts vary according to the style of the building.

Impost Block
In architecture, a stone slab with the shape of a truncated, inverted pyramid that is placed between a capital and the architectural member above it.

Dosseret, or impost block - cubical block of stone above the capitals in a Byzantine church, used to carry the arches and vault, the springing of which had a superficial area greatly in excess of the column which carried them.
