Inset
Inset dormers are also called recessed dormers. Unlike most other dormers, which extend out from a roof, this style is set back into the roof, creating a much different look.

 


Niche - an inset carved or built into a structure that resembles a window, where a statue or a decoration may be placed.
Pediment - a roof-like façade carve above a doorway, a window, or a niche.

Coffer - An inset decoration in a ceiling, vault, or dome. They range from the undecorative types such as in the inner dome of the Pantheon, to more ornate ones decorated with moldings and rosettes.

Full-width one-story porch or partial (often inset in L) porch or wrap around porch
The Folk Victorian is a simple version of the more elaborate Victorian house styles.
The folk victorian is often confussed with the queen anne style.

The enclosure walls are usually fairly low and are decorated with inset bowls and plates from China and elsewhere and in the middle of the east side there is a monumental gate.

fanlight A semicircular or semielliptical window above a door, usually inset with radiating glazing bars.
fascia A horizontal, flat element, often combined with a cornice and architrave.

On return from campaigns in Greece, the general Sulla returned with what is probably the most well-known element of the early imperial period: the mosaic, a decoration of colourful chips of stone inset into cement.

STORIES The number of stories a building reflects its height by counting the stacked floors. If a building has dormer windows inset into the roof, that top section of the building is called a 1/2 story.

The entry door of the Kalil house is set in a nearly solid wall of concrete block. Light filters into the house through narrow windows. The windows, wall openings, and embossed insets in the concrete blocks make the masonry seem light and airy.

Mansions or large homes with excellent features of the style.

3 compared with fig. 2 will show the difference; in the former the angles of intersection are inset, and in the latter they are groins with projecting angles at the base, which die away at the summit.
