Ionic Order
One of the basic orders of architecture invented by the Greeks. Ionic architecture was developed by the Ionians in Greece prior to 500 B.C.. An Ionic column has a small base, a thin elegant shaft, and a capital composed of volutes.

Ionic Order
One of five orders of classical architecture, the others being: Tuscan, Doric, Corinthian and Composite. The Ionic and Doric styles were widely used in ancient Greece and later adopted by the Romans.

The Ionic order is also marked by an entasis, a curved tapering in the column shaft. A column of the ionic order is nine or lower diameters. The shaft itself is eight diameters high.

Ionic capital: A capital used originally by the Greeks in a system of supports called the Ionic order. The Ionic order is based on a set of proportions and includes a particular kind of column base and lintel as well as capital.

The Ionic column, or Ionic order, is historically classified by Italian architects, as one of three orders built by Greeks. Many structures are seen displaying Ionic columns, and examples are seen throughout the world.

The final order would be the Ionic order. Their columns were more slender than those of the Doric order. Their dimensions were eight to nine meters high, instead of four to five.

The Ionic Order of architecture was seen during both ancient Greek and Roman civilizations though in Greek architecture the shafts are more likely to be fluted and in Roman architecture they are more likely to be plain.

Voussoirs - Trapezoidal shaped blocks of an arch, laid in compression, culminating in the keystone.
