Lierne
A short rib that runs from the one main rib of a vault to another.

Lierne - A minor rib in a complex rib vault. Liernes do not spring from the main springers.
Linenfold - Panelling ornamented with a conventional representation of a piece of linen laid in vertical folds. One such piece fills one panel.

Lierne
An ornamental vaulting rib that joins two other ribs into a net-like pattern but has no structural function.

LIERNE: in a vault, a tertiary rib that links a principal rib to a tierceron. LIERNE VAULT: a vault exhibiting liernes. LIGHT: one of the main vertical divisions of a window.

In order to mask the junction of the various ribs, their intersections were ornamented with richly carved bosses, and this practice increased on the introduction of another short rib, known as the lierne, a term in France given to the ridge rib.
