Raking Cornice - The sloping moldings of a pediment.
Return - A wooden member nailed between the rafter-end and the stringer for bed board support.
Rib Band - A board set into the inside face of the stud to support a second floor joist.

 


Raking cornice: A cornice following the slope (the angled sides) of a gable, pediment or roof
Modillion cornice: A cornice supported by a series of modillions, often found in Composite and Corinthian orders.

Ridgeboard A decorative board standing on edge, along the ridge of a roof.
Ridgepole The horizontal beam at the ridge of a roof, to which rafters are attached.

Molding that follows the slope of a pediment or gable.
RIDGE CRESTING
Ornament along a roof ridge.

The sloping cornice, "raking cornice" or "rake board", is also carried across the top of the triangular pediment, at the gable end of a building.

The area between an arch and the top of a doorway or the area under the raking cornices of a pediment, above the cornice. In Greek architecture these carried scenes of Greek heroism, in Christian, it is stories from the bible.

The triangular recessed space beneath the coping of a pedimant and between the raking cornice of the roof and the horizontal geison below.

cornice - the top course of a wall when it serves as a crowning member. Along the slope of a gable or pediment, it is called a raking cornice. Maybe open or boxed in (closed).
