Retirata - Improvised fieldwork to counter an imminent breach. Revetment - Retaining wall to prevent erosion; to face a surface with stone slabs. Rib - Raised moulding dividing a vault.
Retirata: (1) A work built behind a bastion so as to its strength. (2) An earthwork rampart, raised behind a breach, to enable the garrison to defend the position against storming. See retrenchment.
