Roof Run - The horizontal distance from the outside of a bearing wall plate to the center of the ridge rafter.
Roof Span - Equal to twice the roof run, or the horizontal distance between the outside faces of bearing wall plates.
Originating in Gothic architecture, this is a water spout for roof run- off. Gargoyles are carved human, animal,or demon figures who offer the roof run-off through their open mouths or, in modern times, through winding body parts.
