Sheathing: Boards, plywood or other materials used to "close in" the walls and roof of a house are referred to as sheathing. Sheathing is nailed to the outside of the structural members (rafters, studs).

A form of sheathing for wood-frame buildings consisting of wide boards, usually placed vertically, whose joints are covered by narrow strips of wood over the joints or cracks.
