Stepped merlon: A merlon which rose to its apex in two or more steps. A variation was where the top of the steps was sloped towards the exterior of the parapet. See Irish battlements, Venetian battlements.

ziggurat - a stepped pyramidal form in Art Deco style architecture; loosely based on the ziggurat temples of the Assyrians and Babylonians. A Minneapolis example of a ziggurat roof is the Foshay Tower.

Crepidoma - The stepped base of a Greek temple.
Crest or cresting - An ornamental finish along the top of a screen, wall, or roof, usually decorated and sometimes perforated.

At the head of the slope it is level, at the side of the slope it is raking or stepped.
Abutment Piece - A sill or sole plate.

This evolved into the stepped pyramid and finally into the fully developed, plane-sided pyramid, of which the largest and best preserved are those of Khufu (built c. 2570 bc) and Khafre (c. 2530 bc) at Giza, near Cairo.

The frontispiece has a stepped gable that holds the date. The front porch has a door with a low lancet arch, dripmold, and label stops. Above the porch is a balustraded balcony with twin lancet doors.

Soaker
- a short flashing stepped horizontally, to coincide with individual stones or bricks. Most commonly found on chimney stacks.

Double-fronted - House front consisting of two principle bays, often stepped, perhaps with a central door or porch.
Double-hung sash window - A window with two sashes sliding vertically past each other within the frame.

In Islamic architecture, a raised pulpit that is reached via a stepped structure. It is located usually to the right of a mosque's mihrab. It is used by the imam (prayer leader) for sermons and prayer.

Corbel -- In masonry, a projection, or one of a series of projections, each stepped progressively farther forward with height and articulating a cornice or supporting an overhanging member.

Ziggurat
In ancient Assyria and Babylonia, a tower in the shape of a stepped pyramid. It formed the base of a temple.

FRIEZE
A decorative band usually placed along the top of a wall. Stencils cut from cow hides were used by workers to create repeated patterns such as this Greek key or stepped fret pattern.
