Some transom windows are fixed and cannot be opened. These windows are often decorative in some way. They may be divided into multiple panes by vertical muntins, or they might be filled with stained glass.

SIDELIGHT A window immediately beside a door. A transom window is a window above a door. A fanlight is a window in the shape of a fan above a door; it may extend over the sidelights.

Transom - A window above a door; if an exterior door the transom window is often fixed, if an interior door it can often open either by hinges at top or bottom, or can rotate about hinges at the middle of its sides.
