- form of roof construction in which the roof is carried on pairs of naturally curved timbers (crucks) joined at the ridge and combining the functions of upright post and rafter (full crucks) or embedded into the wallhead (upper crucks).
Upper crucks have blades supported on a tie-beam and rising to the apex.CryptUnderground or half-underground area, usually below the east end of a church.
