Vinyl
A plastic material used for cladding or entire window units.
Weatherstripping
A material or device used to seal the openings, gaps or cracks of venting window and door units to prevent water and air infiltration.
- (Poly vinylchloride) is manufactured in the form of a white powder. Before it is fabricated, various additives such as stabilisers and plasticisers are introduced.
Fin The vinyl flange surrounding the perimeter frame of a vinyl window or patio doors.
Nailing Fin: A vinyl or aluminum extension attached to the frame of a window or door which creates a positive seal between the window and the framed wall. Acts as an additional barrier against air and water leakage.
It is used wet but goes tacky quickly, and can hold down curling edges of vinyl floor tiles.
Cladding An aluminum or vinyl material bonded to the exterior of some windows.
Oriele A double-hung window in which the upper sash is shorter than the lower sash.
Vent panel The panel that moves horizontally on a sliding patio door.
You would not be able to find windows like this today. If you replaced them with vinyl, the vinyl ones last 20 years and then would need to be replaced by something else that would probably be even worse.
