Ancestor - Definition
An ancestor is a parent or (recursively) the parent of an ancestor. So this includes a father or mother, as well as grandparents, great-grandparents, and so on.

Our ancestors named the genius who knew all these abstractions as God. Can we find another name to it? How many years will it take for the mankind to get closer to that name?

An African American (also Afro-American, Black American, or simply black) is a member of an ethnic group in the United States whose ancestors, usually in predominant part, were indigenous to Africa. ... USN redirects here. ...

I shrink with as much horror from believing that my race can ever be superseded or surpassed, as I should do from believing that even at the remotest period my ancestors were other than human beings.

the ancestor of neural nets. We look at how linear regression can use simple matrix operations to learn from data. We gurgle with delight as we see why one initial assumption leads inevitably to the decision to try to minimize sum squared error.

Perhaps this ability to 'simulate a spatial world inside the mind' was one of the early seeds or catalysts that led our ancestors to be able to self-reflect.

How can two ideas be merged to produce a new structure, which shows the influence of both ancestor-ideas without being a mere "cut-and-paste" combination?

At my undergraduate institution, the two programs came from the same ancestor, electrical engineering and computer science. At Dartmouth College, however, computer science emerged from the mathematics department. ...

Could this non-linearity have something to do with one of the key ways our ancestors perceived time, as the size of an object (esp. prey/predator) coming closer to us?

Decision tree The deterministic ancestor of the hierarchical mixture of experts. Used widely in Machine Learning, where the most emphasis is on structuring the tree. See Murthy's survey, Ripley, and web site.

When they subjected R2D1to the test that had so unequivocally selected its ancestors for extinction, they were surprised to see it sitting, Hamlet-like, outside the room containing the ticking bomb, ...

Various religious groups have raised objections and controversy concerning the theory of humanity's evolution from a common ancestor with the other hominoids. See creationism and argument from evolution for opposing points of view.

Genetically we are not very different from our ancestors of the last glaciation. But thanks to our culture, we can achieve much more. And machines, which are a product of our culture, have been aid us in accelerating our own improvement.

The linear resolution strategy is a slight generalization that allows P and Q to be resolved together if either P is in the original KB or if P is an ancestor of Q in the proof tree. Linear resolution is complete.

Whenever the cost of the current node exceeds that of some other node in the previously expanded portion of the tree, the algorithm backs up to their deepest common ancestor, and continues the search down the new path.

This process can culminate in the emergence of new species. Indeed, the similarities between organisms suggest that all known species are descended from a common ancestor (or ancestral gene pool) through this process of gradual divergence.

This is identical in PI but to differing degrees: we do not have the same experiment for animals that we have already described, but we do have the advantage of knowing about our ancestors (and at the same time, gaining greater knowledge) ...
