However, note that if we use confidence factors in even a simplistic fashion - for example, by multiplying them together as if they were like soft probabilities - we get a result that is known with a confidence factor of only one-half of 1%.
Provision for user uncertainty on test results is built into the system, as MYCIN will accept "unknown" as an input alongside a numerical degree of confidence factor within the range -1 to +1. In this way the system can reason with incomplete data.
