Acronycal: Said of the rising after sunset, or setting before sunrise, of a planet that is in opposition to the Sun, hence in a favorable position for astronomical observation.

accidental dignity A planet that occupies its house of natural rulership or falls within 5° of an angle is said to be accidentally dignified. The term is also applied to planets in angular houses and to the most elevated planets in a horoscope.

Accidental Dignity - Planet dignified by favorable position, motion or aspect, but not in Essential Dignity.
Accidental Debility - a planet weakened by house placement or by aspect to a malefic object.

Accidental Dignity - a planet strengthened by house placement or by aspect to a benefic (Jupiter or Venus) or conjunct a benefic fixed star, or cazimi.

Both essential and accidental dignity indicate promotion of planetary strength.

In addition to Essential dignity, the traditional astrologer considers Accidental dignity of planets. This is placement by house in the chart under examination. Accidental dignity describes the planet's "ability to act".

Make sure that the chart ruler is high in both essential and accidental dignity.

A planet so placed as to gain strength by way of Essential or Accidental dignity, does not necessarily confer a benevolent disposition.
