Accidentally Dignified: said of a planet conjunct an Angle. Such a planet is most projected, manifest or noticeable, and is often the most influential planet in the chart.

 


The number of planets which are accidentally dignified is a character - index of importance. A planet so placed as to gain strength by way of Essential or Accidental dignity, does not necessarily confer a benevolent disposition.

It can be accidentally dignified by being angular, in a favourable house, or one in which it rejoices; or by being disposited or aspected by a beneficial planet or fortunate fixed star, in cazimi, increasing in light or speed, ...

A Planet in its natural House (such as Mars in Aries) is accidentally dignified and strengthened as a result. Perhaps the most important Planet of all is the one that rules the Ascendant.

accidental dignity A planet that occupies its house of natural rulership or falls within 5° of an angle is said to be accidentally dignified. The term is also applied to planets in angular houses and to the most elevated planets in a horoscope.

The Moon, Mercury, and Venus are accidentally dignified when occidental. The western half of a chart between the M.C. and 4th cusp is called the occidental side of the chart. A planet setting in the west after the sun is also called "vespertine.

When planets are found in the "angles" of the horoscope (First, Fourth, Seventh and Tenth Houses) they are said to be angular or accidentally dignified.

A planet is essentially dignified when it occupies its natural sign of dignity or its sign of exaltation; it is accidentally dignified when placed in its natural house. It is in domal dignity when in its own sign.

Elevated Planet: A planet placed high in a horoscope. The most elevated is the planet closest to the Midheaven; it is considered strong by position and accidentally dignified.
