Applying Aspect: One in which the significator (the faster moving of two planets involved) is moving toward partile (exactness) as opposed to a separating aspect in which the significator is moving away from partile.
APPLYING ASPECT - An applying aspect moves toward perfection; a separating aspect has already taken place. The faster moving planet is the applying body. If a direct planet, the aspect is mutually applying.

Applying aspects these tend to be stronger and the applying planet more likely to be the stronger influence. Venus at a later degree than Saturn would form a separating aspect giving the upper hand to Saturn.
First applying aspect of the Moon is the sextile to retrograde Saturn. This is not a good aspect since Saturn signifies delays and obstacles, but the sextile is good aspect, and those problems could be overcame.
Is there is an applying aspect between the Moon and the mother's significator? If so, is this a positive or negative influence?

Actually, forget the other question, what if you have a planet retrograde at the first degrees of a sign but not forming any major aspects to other planets? Is it void then? What about in applying aspects to the Moon & ascendant, ...
