The Asteroids
These diagrams show the positions of all numbered asteroids and comets within the orbit of Jupiter as of April 1, 2005. Asteroids are yellow dots; comets are white, sunward-pointing arrowheads.

The Asteroids
In 1766 a German astronomer, Titius, discovered a pattern in the distances of the planets from the Sun. This is now known as 'Bodes Law', after a colleague of his who published it.

The Asteroid Signs
Chiron
Chiron is located between Saturn and Uranus and is considered a "centaur" asteroid. In reality it is a comet nucleus. It was discovered in 1977.

Three Asteroids come closer to the Earth than do any of the major planets. They are Amor, Apollo, and Adonis. 1936 CA or Adonis was discovered in 1936 by Delporte in Belgium. Its orbit has an eccentricity of 0.78, an inclination to the Ecliptic of 1°.
