Variously called the Ascending and Descending Nodes, the North and South Nodes, Caput Draconis or the Dragon's Head, Cauda Draconis, the Katababazon, or the Dragon's Tail. The Nodes regress about 3° of arc per diem.

Caput Draconis, is the dragon's head or Moon's North Node, and Cauda Draconis, the dragon's tail or South Node.

From Hindu astrology, the term Dragon's Head (caput draconis) is used for the North Node. The South Lunar Node is also known as the Descending Node or the Dragon's Tail (cauda draconis). These two nodes are always exactly opposite one another.

Traditionally, the north node is called the 'Dragon's Head' (Caput Draconis). It is said to be a benefic influence of the nature of Jupiter. The south node is called the 'Dragon's Tail' (Cauda Draconis) and is malefic, of the nature of Saturn.

In western astrology, Rahu is described as the north node of the Moon or Caput Draconis, and Ketu as the south node of the Moon or Cauda Draconis. But as Rahu and Ketu are shorter words, we shall use them throughout this book.

They are alternately known as the "Dragon's Head" (Rahu, Caput Draconis, or Anabibazon) and the "Dragon's Tail" (Ketu, Cauda Draconis, or Catabibazon).
