Celestial Latitude:
A planet's distance north or south of the ecliptic.
Ecliptic (Sun's path) crosses the equator at 0 Aries and Libra, giving the Sun 0 declination at these points.

This is our celestial prime meridian as it were, and represents the line (or plane) of 0º celestial latitude.

The really clever part of this application of the stereographic projection is, if the projection is rotated so the ecliptic is horizontal, the arcs above the ecliptic represent arcs of celestial latitude and the perpendicular arcs represent celestial ...

It is important to distinguish between Geographical Latitude measured N. or S. of the Equator, and Celestial Latitude measured N. or S. of the Ecliptic. Geographical Latitude is thus comparable to Declination rather than Celestial Latitude.
