Centaurs
The so-called Centaurs are a number of minor celestial bodies whose orbits run between inner and outer planets in our solar system.
Centaurs belong primarily to Greek mythology. They combine a savage and untamed animal nature with an ancient wisdom of human culture. The wisest, and in some references, oldest of the centaurs was Chiron.
Centaurs and satyrs are also nature-deities, as are all mythological creatures with animal or part-animal form, including the greatest nature-deity of them all, Pan.

Centaurs A recently-discovered class of icy, comet-like planetoids that orbit the Sun between Jupiter and Neptune. The most astrologically significant is Chiron, but others are considered by some modern astrologers to be important.
But despite this emblem of hope, the figure of the King of the Centaurs is a tragic one. It is worth reiterating the myth, which is often distorted or wrongly told because it is such a painful one.
Whereas the other centaurs were rowdy party animals given even to looting and rape, he dedicated himself to the study of medicine, music, astrology and the martial arts.
Chiron was the name of the first and greatest of all Centaurs in Greek mythology. Like the Centaur, half-horse and half-man, the times were that of a people divided within themselves.
Unlike other centaurs, he was wise and noble. Chiron was gifted with immortality, and taught Hercules about the gods, the stars, music, archery, medicine, and how to heal wounds.
Although Chiron was a Centaur, he is very different from other Centaurs in mythology who were known for their drunken worship of the vine and Dionysus, and enthusiasm for fighting.
The hero had been trying to wipe out the other vicious centaurs which were plaguing the countryside. He had no intention of shooting Chiron, and was extremely remorseful. Although Chiron used his medical skills on the wound, it was incurable.
In recognition of their dual comet/asteroid nature they have been designated Centaurs, the mythological Greek race that was half man, half horse.
He could then go back to the Centaurs and care for them in his full glory. He finally fit in. I see this as Chiron's gift- a calling that won't let you settle in where you don't belong.
Although there are many asteroids and/or centaurs that can be used in astrology, only a certain few are commonly used. They are: Chiron, Ceres, Juno, Pallas Athena and Vesta.

This new group of asteroids became known as the Centaurs with Chiron as the leading Centaur. There are now known to be at least 41 of them. The first "new" one to be discovered was named Pholus, followed by Nessus, Asbolus, Chariklo and Hylonome.
