Co-Ruler: Prior to the discovery of Uranus, the Sun and Moon were believed to rule one sign each and the other five planets then known to humankind (Mercury through Saturn) to rule two signs each.

Co-ruler of Scorpio, whose traditional ruler is Mars, Pluto takes approximately 248 years to make its circuit of the zodiac. Pluto was discovered in 1930, comparatively recently in terms of astrological recognition.

Co-rulerWhere more than one planet rules a sign, or other cosmic attribute, the planets concerned are known as co-rulers. Before the development of the telescope, the known visible planets were assigned rulership of signs.

The take-off chart shows an opposition in angular houses between Mercury (8th ruler) and Uranus (co-ruler of the 1st House, with Aquarius intercepted there).

Eventually Uranus has come to be accepted as co-ruler of Aquarius, Neptune as co-ruler of Pisces and Pluto as co-ruler of Scorpio. Lately, (that is, in the 90's) the traditional rulers of these signs are being discarded.

Barbara Hand Clow (author of Chiron: Rainbow Bridge Between the Inner & Outer Planets) gives a compelling argument in favour of Chiron being a co-ruler of Virgo - traditionally ruled by Mercury, who seems more at home in his other sign, Gemini.

And it involves the MOON which in any chart is co-ruler of every cusp. And this Moon is opposite Saturn, and square Uranus. And look, Moon rules the tenth house of people in POWER. Where is the Moon?

The ruler of Scorpio is Pluto. Prior to the discovery of the ninth planet, Scorpio was ruled by Mars, which is still considered co-ruler. The sign of cosmic purpose, Scorpio is considered to be the success sign.

For example: if the sign occupying the cusp of the sixth house is Scorpio, the significator will be Mars as it is the ruling planet of that sign (traditionally, before the discovery of Pluto and now co-ruler).

So, note should be made if one planet more than any other features strongly in event charts by transits or progressions or in major aspect to it. Use co-rulers too in the case of signs having two, ...

It describes male relationships and associations, risk-taking inclinations, and the physical challenges you are likely to encounter. Mars is the astrological ruler of Aries, and the co-ruler of Scorpio.

Some astrologers believe that the sign on the cusp and the intercepted sign are co-rulers of the house. This often become contradictory and somewhat confusing to the beginner, and I don't personally subscribe to the idea anyway.

Trigon was ruled by Mars with the co-rulership of Venus by day and the Moon by night.
