Direct motion - Movement of a planet in the order of the zodiac signs from Aries to Taurus to Gemini, etc. Retrograde motion is opposite to direct motion.
Directions - A term synonymous with progression.

WHAT IS DIRECT MOTION?
Direct motion is a phenomena when Earth, in it's orbits, passes up the slower moving planet and seems to move ahead of it once again. So, any planet can go retrograde or direct as we stand on Earth. They all do.

DIRECT MOTION
The normal direction of planetary movement. It is especially important to note the time when a planet assumes this direction at the conclusion of its retrogression. The change in direction is significant for predictive purposes.

Direct MotionPlanetary motion through the zodiac in the normal order of the signs. The opposite of Retrograde Motion.

When Mars in transit retrogrades over a birth Saturn position, it means that this is already the second transit of Mars over the birth Saturn position, and that when it resumes Redirect motion there will occur a third contact.

In the retrograde cycle, a planet journeys through a portion of the zodiac three times - first in direct motion, then in retrograde motion, and finally in direct motion. I call that area of the zodiac the Retrograde Shadow.

When all planets involved in the aspect are moving in a direct motion (not retrograded motion) it is always the faster moving planet which is said to 'apply' (getting close) to the aspect, before exactness; or to 'separate' from the aspect, ...

All the planets pass through all the signs, usually in direct motion (from Aries to Taurus to Gemini to Cancer and so on), but sometimes in the opposite direction for various periods of time.

With the planet near a station, I believe this can further take the person "out of the moment" because they are intuitively looking forward to the predictability of direct motion! This is why I call it the "burden" of the quest.

The degree at which it stations is then "sensitive" and the influence will be felt in some way until the planet returns to this degree again by direct motion. When a planet stations on a natal planet, it marks an important turning point in events.

The other might be termed the secondary effect, which takes place when Mercury is actually in direct motion, but passing through those degrees which shall have been affected by retrograde motion for the retrograde period in question.

Pre-Retrograde Shadow: This is the planet's first pass through the Shadow. In this phase, the planet is going in its usual "direct motion" (forward).

The major concern of helio astrology is the very regular and direct motion of the planets as they circle around the Sun forming and endless, ever-changing, kaleidoscopic series of grand aspect patterns through the zodiac.

The positions given refer to the degrees of the sign occupied followed by the minutes. R= Retrograde, otherwise they are in direct motion. The Sun and Moon are never Retrograde but the Moon's Nodes always are.

For example it indicates direct motion at 5:35.4 Capricorn on 15 January 2010 , then 5:33.6 Capricorn on the 16th; 11 May Mercury goes direct at 2:41.6 Taurus with it's position on 12 May 2:39.6 Taurus; 12 September 2010 Mercury goes direct at 5:26.

The influence of stations, if hitting on a natal planet, can be quite marked. So too if a planet retrogrades over a natal planet having already passed over it once, as it will then transit it again when it turns to direct motion.
