East Point: The equatorial Ascendant; i.e., the sign and degree rising over the eastern horizon at Earth's equator at any given time; the point at which Earth's equator intersects the ecliptic.

The Meridian (or East Point or Axial) system cannot by its own definition be applied globally because it resets all charts to the Equator, having no regard for the real Ascendant or local skies.

The prime vertical (the great circle taking in the zenith and east point on the horizon) is divided into twelve, and these divisions are projected on to the ecliptic along great circles that take in the north and south points on the horizon.

Nadir: The point on any given observer's celestial sphere diametrically opposite of one's zenith.
With reference to a Birth Figure it signifies properly the east point of the same, placed at the left thereof (v. Map of the Heavens); hence the Sign and the degree thereof are distinguished as the Rising Sign (q.v.) and the Rising Degree.
Rather, another sensitive point called the Equatorial Ascendant or East Point is the first house cusp. This system is popular with Uranian astrologers; it is based on even divisions of the celestial equator projected onto the ecliptic.
