Elongation: The distance of a planet from the Sun, as viewed from Earth. The maximum elongation for the inferior planets is 28° for Mercury, and 48° for Venus.
Elongation. (a) The angular distance of an inferior, or interior, planet from the Sun, as viewed from the Earth. The maximum elongation which Mercury attains is 28 degrees; Venus, 46 degrees.
Greatest Elongation East:
Some six months later it reaches the point of the greatest distance ahead of the Sun in its counterclockwise direct motion in orbit, hence East.
The ecliptic elongation of the moon with respect to the sun does not show uniform distribution on the birth dates of the 704 soccer players selected for the 1998 World Cup. However, a uniform distribution is expected on astronomical grounds.

In all charts it has become routine with me to consider the draconitic version - that is, planetary elongations from the Moon's mean node - in relation to the familiar positions in the vernal zodiac.
Note: Mercury and Venus are based on the point of maximum elongation of the planet as measured from the Sun.
Safflower has a strong taproot which enables it to thrive in dry climates, but the plant is very susceptible to frost injury from stem elongation to maturity.
They are always found in the same or adjacent signs as the Sun, except in rare instances when the Sun is in the second half of a sign and Venus is near its "maximum elongation" of 48 degrees.
