Equal Houses. A house system that uses the degree of the Ascendant as the basis for all the succeeding house cusps so that each house begins at the same degree of each sign.
Equal houses are said to commence with the rising degree and then reflect the zodiacal division of the Ecliptic by following on in the order of the signs.
If the Part of Fortune is a first house marker, our natural tendency as modern Western astrologers is make the degree of the Part the cusp of the first house and to set up equal houses from the Part using the Part as an Ascendant.
As a result, equal houses counted from the ascendant cannot in general place the midheaven on the tenth house cusp, where many feel it would be symbolically desirable.
