Locomotive. A chart pattern or configuration in which the chart has at least 120 degrees without planets and about 240 degrees of space occupied by planets, with the planet furthest east as the leading planet.

Configuration: Planets are located in 8-9 zodiac signs and the space of 240 degrees (two trines), leaving one 120 degree space (one trine) empty.
The Locomotive Pattern - All 10 planets occupy between ½ and 2/3 of the chart, leaving 1/3 or more empty. This shows a dynamic and practical capacity, especially characterized by the qualities of the leading planet.

Many of the stories had titles such as, Tom Swift and his Electric Locomotive or Tom Swift and his Electric Compass. I'm sure that Tom Swift would have had an electric astrolabe if he had thought about it.
