The major Aspects in Astrology
The Conjunction: Planets and points that form a conjunction are energies that are united. They are blended; therefore, they act together.

Major Aspects
Conjunction: The most powerful of all the aspects, when two or more planets are together. This is usually a good aspect as the two or more planets combine their energies.

Major aspect - Also called Ptolemaic aspects. The conjunction - 0 degrees , sextile - 60 degrees, square - 90 degrees, trine - 120 degrees, and opposition - 180 degrees.

Major Aspects
Conjunction (0 degrees):
Neither harmonious or inharmonious, this aspect merges and intensifies the energies of two planets. Inner tension can arise if the planets have conflicting natures.

Major Aspect: the conjunction, opposition, trine, square and sextile aspects; those aspects having angular separations of 360° divided by 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6, that is, with harmonic numbers of 1, 2, 3, 4 or 6.

Major AspectsAspects dividing the 360 degrees of the circle of the zodiac by 2 (opposition: 180°); 3 (trine: 120°); 4 (square: 90°); 6 (sextile: 60°). These were defined by Ptolemy, based on Pythagorian numerological and musical theory.

The major aspects we will study are shown on the previous page in Table 3. They are (not in order of distance, but in an order that may be easier to learn):
Conjunction: 0 degrees

Find major aspects to the natal Ascendant from progressed planets that are within a one-degree orb. If it is the Sun or Moon, give a one and a half degree orb. Make a note of it. Do the same with the natal Midheaven.

The traditional major aspects are sometimes called Ptolemaic aspects since they were defined and used by Ptolemy in the 1st Century, AD.

esides the major aspects mentioned above, there are also quite a number of "minor aspects". Most of these are subdivisions of the major aspects. The minor aspects add depth and detail to the general picture.

Several of configurations formed by major aspects are the T-Square, the Grand Cross, the Grand Trine, a Stellium, and the Yod. The T Square This configuration occurs when Two planets oppose each other and both are squared by a third planet.

The moon is void between the time it forms its last major aspect (conjunction, sextile, square, trine or opposition) to any other planet, and the time of its ingress into the next sign.

Sun-a conjunction is the only major aspect and reflects a strong preoccupation with the sign concept. If a superior conjunction, a confidence and focus within the sign of occurrence. If inferior (m) insecurity with the power of the intellect.

It makes no major aspects to other planets apart from a square to Pluto. The 3rd house is the house of short journeys and Elizabeth made an abundance of those.

When dealing with the major aspects, ( conjunction, trine, square, and opposition ), some astrologers will allow up to 10 degrees for aspects involving Sun, Moon, or Ascendant, but only 7 degrees for planetary aspects.

Start, however with gaining an understanding of the major aspects. A good way to familiarize yourself with them is to take a blank chart wheel and place the signs of the zodiac around the wheel.

A good workable orb of influence for most major aspects is in the region of eight degrees ~ eight degrees applying to exactitude and eight degrees separating.

The angles or aspects produced by dividing 360° by 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 are called "the major aspects.

The major aspects are Conjunct, Trine, Sextile, Squared, and Opposition, though there are many intermediate minor aspects.

It is commonly considered in the traditional astrology that the Moon carries the signification of the upcoming events, but only when she relates to other planets by a major aspect.

Or, Pluto might form a major aspect to one of your personal planets. For example, Pluto might conjunct, oppose or square the Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus or Mars.

Void of course: A term describing a planet that does not make a major aspect before changing Signs. It is used primarily with respect to the Moon.

The Three Fires mentioned here (and elsewhere in this web page) are just different esoteric names for the Three Major Aspects, ...

void-of-course A term describing a planet that does not apply to a major aspect until it changes sign, usually confined to reference to the Moon. In horary astrology, a void-of-course Moon indicates lack of action or dynamics.

This is because all angles are derived from the aspects between planets, and as planets are themselves considered as dynamic angles even when not forming major aspects to other planets, they are still the essence of angles.

While it is difficult to state exactly what the result of these compound aspects may be, in a general sense we can speculate. Several configurations formed by major aspects are: the T Square, the Grand Cross, the Grand Trine, the Mystic Rectangle, ...

are in close orb, and the energies of both are amplified. If in the same degree, that's an exact conjunction, but planets within 10 degrees are considered affected by the dynamics of this aspect. It's considered the most powerful of the major aspects.

The soft aspects indicate where qualities flow together easily. The following is a list of major aspects. Some astrologers use additional aspects, or divisions of the Zodiac, which are called "minor aspects." ...

150°, this is not considered as a major aspect by all astrologers. A planet or point at the same degree five signs away is quincunx the other. Moon at 23°Gemini is quincunx Mars at 23°Capricorn and Uranus at 23°Scorpio.
