In astrology the term malefic is used to refer to something that has a detrimental or negative meaning within the context of astrological interpretations.

I read in a karmic astrology book by Celeste Teal that a planet (especially a ~ one like mars) in the degree of the nodes is an indication of a fateful and, otherwise, negative event. That sounds wretched. Could you help me understand this somewhat better?
