B
esides the major aspects mentioned above, there are also quite a number of "minor aspects". Most of these are subdivisions of the major aspects. The minor aspects add depth and detail to the general picture.

Minor Aspects
Semi-Sextile: This is a half version of the Sextile and therefore not as strong. Most astrologers agree that this minor aspect is easy.

Minor Aspects
Semi-Sextile (30 degrees, 1 sign apart):
A minor harmonious aspect. It is considered important to some astrologers in natal astrology. It is similar to sextile but minor, It also can mitigate other inharmonious aspects.

Minor Aspect: the semisquare, quincunx, semisextile, sesquiquadrate, quintile, biquintile, septile, biseptile, triseptile, novile and decile.

This is a minor aspect the strength of which depends on how close it is to being exact (its "orb"). Refer to the "Strength" rating above for this aspect's relative strength and therefore its applicability to you.

Novile: A minor aspect between two planets or points that measures 40°. Some interpretations include brooding, realization and/or redemption. The glyph for the Novile varies according to the software program.

Decile - Minor aspect of 36°. Considered fortunate, also known as semi-quintile.
Declination - The arc of measurement in degrees north or south of the celestial equator.

Most of today's minor aspects were not recognised in ancient astrology. The fact that they are unable to inscribe a shape which is enclosed and complete within the zodiac wheel invalidates them according to their philosophical foundation.

Minor AspectsAspects other than the Major Aspects defined by Ptolemy. These were largely defined by Kepler and Lilly, based on harmonic (Kepler) and discordant (Lilly) musical intervals dividing the circle of the zodiac.

The grand trine and grand cross are the most common, but it is also possible to meet up with a grand sextile, grand octile, or a grand minor aspect form at occasional points in history.

The divisions by 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12 are not as influential as these other divisions and are called minor aspects.

Here, minor aspects of NM to Jupiter and Neptune indicate some general confusion and trouble for the government as well as unpopularity for the president.

Even beyond the above list of the so-called modern minor aspects, there are more such as the decile 10°, 20°, etc. (10th), and these would overlap with the traditional aspects.

When we find a chart with one "complex" of aspects, that is nowhere connected to the rest of the chart, or connected by a very minor aspect, we usually find a person who has a dichotomy in the life that is uneasily resolved.

What we normally think of as ASTROLOGY is the calculation of the longitudinal positions and aspects of the planets (conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trines, oppositions, and all the minor aspects).

Septile: The seventh harmonic, 51 3/7°. A little-used minor aspect, probably inharmonious, thought to be associated with karma.
Sesquiquadrate: An arc of 135 degrees, a 'square-and-a-half.' A minor aspect indicating tension and challenge.

Minor aspects are used in progressed charts as much as the major aspects. The aspects can be between the natal and progressed chart along with transits, and between themselves within the progressed chart.

Semi-Sextile: An arc of 30 degrees. This aspect creates unease; it is a minor aspect.
Semi-Square: An arc of 45 degrees, or "half a square." A minor aspect indicating stress and tension, requiring action to release the tension.

There are so-called major and minor aspects. Here we will concern ourselves with some of the major aspects because they are the most commonly used and the easiest to see in a chart.

But we do not need every inconsequential angle that exists as one of the minor aspects between planets: these represent superfluous karmic energy we have taken on board by becoming too involved with the endless thread of life events that planets ...

Nonile: A ninth harmonic aspect based on division of 360° by 9 (40°). A minor aspect, the nonile is seldom used by modern astrologers. It was once given a fatalistic connotation.

The planets are in Quincunx when they are about 150 degrees from each other. The Quincunx is a minor aspect and it creates a certain uneasiness and a feeling of discomfort.

Quintile: The quintile is an aspect of 72 degrees, or 1/5 of the 360 degree circle. It is an easy minor aspect, often signifying human endeavor and accomplishments.

tri-septile A seldom-used minor aspect, probably inharmonious, belonging to the septile (seventh harmonic) family; separating distance, 154°17'.

For the trine and square aspects reduce the arc by one-fourth, and for the minor aspects by one-half.

The number of degrees of orb used also tends to vary with the aspect in question; for example, a wider orb is usually used for a major aspect (e.g., Conjunction) than for a minor aspect (e.g., Quintile).

The soft aspects indicate where qualities flow together easily. The following is a list of major aspects. Some astrologers use additional aspects, or divisions of the Zodiac, which are called "minor aspects." ...
