Nakshatra
Our Vedic system recognizes 27 Nakshatra or constellation. (Sometimes 28, if we include Abhijit Nakshatra which is an integral part of Ultarashada).
The Nakshatra and the signs of the zodiac both begin from the same point. The beginning of the first Nakshatra, or constellation of Ashwini, the first Nakshatra, is the same as that of the first sign of Aries.
NAKSHATRA (CONSTELLATION)
A group of stars is called Nakshatra . Just as the units used for measuring the distance is miles or kilometers in the same way the space (Akash Mandal) is measured in terms of Nakshatras (group of stars).

Nakshatra, Maha - Asterisms, viz., Anuradha, Mrigashirsha, Swati, and Makkha. Their presence as birth asterism in any of the partners for marriage counteracts all inauspicious incompatibilities.

Other differences between the two traditions include the use of 27 (or 28) nakshatras or lunar mansions, which have been used in India since Vedic times, and the system of planetary periods known as dashas.
Most beginners are amazed to find not only the basic natal chart called the "rasi", but also a chart system employing 27 signs of the Moon, called the "nakshatras".
In the Kuta method the Moons in both charts are compared by a set of twelve criteria based on their position in Nakshatra and Rasi (lunar mansion and sign of the zodiac). Points are allotted for each of the twelve criteria.
One Astrologer named 'Meena' began to ponder on these Nakshatra padas and thought that each nakshatra must be having 9 parts each representing one planet. So he divided the 27 Nakshatras into 243 planetary parts. He published his paper.
They were the names of the Nakshatras and the names of the Chaldean and Chinese lunar mansions. The star constellations were and are the "realm of the gods.". "Swarga Loka" is the name of this heavenly realm.

The lagna Gandanta and the Nakshatra Gandanta. The Lagna Gandanta is when the ascendant sign falls within 14 minutes of these degrees either side. The Nakshatra Gandanta is when the Moon is situated within 48 minutes either side of these points.
