Earth signs are practical but cautious. They are down to earth, can be stubborn (firmly rooted) and function best through the physical level.

Sometimes called the feminine or negative signs, the receptive signs belong to the elements earth and water. You are self-repressive, introverted and much more cautious in how you go about things.

Positive signs are naturally more impulsive, buoyant, communicative and sociable that the Negative signs. They crave excitement and are therefore inclined to direct their energies outwards into the world around them.

To distinguish between these dual rulerships, the positive signs were called Day Houses, and the negative signs, the Night Houses -- although since they are signs not houses, the terms Day Home and Night Home would be preferable.

Feminine Signs: Earth and water signs. Feminine characteristics do not refer to sex or gender; they are associated with receptivity. Synonymous with negative signs.
