Oblique Ascension. (O.A.) As it rises, a star or planet, not on the equator, forms an angle with that part of the equator which is rising at the same time. This is called its Ascensional difference. (A.D.) This A.D. added to the R.A. if it have S.

oblique ascension A measurement determined by the angle (ascensional difference) between the point on the celestial equator rising with a planet rising at a point not at the equator.

To find the Oblique Ascension of a cusp - add 30° to the Right Ascension of the Mid-heaven for each successive House eastward.
To find the Oblique Descension, subtract 30° for every House westward from the Mid-heaven.
Polarity.

SHORT ASCENSION - Signs of shorter oblique ascension, viz. CAPRICORN, AQUARIUS, PISCES, ARIES, TAURUS ,GEMINI.

25. Direct the Medium Coeli of a nativity by the table of right ascensions, but the ascendant by the oblique ascensions under the elevation of the pole where the native was born, &c.
